Meeting Time:

Sundays at 2pm in SUB down under.

Mission:

Projects:

Existing/ Completed within the last year:

  • printing of the “Guide for Living Sustainably” in Kirksville.  Pick up yours at the Student Senate office or outside the door.

  • Passing of a resolution to encourage the University President to sign the Presidents Climate Commitment.  See the PCC here:

See the resolution here:

  • Double sided printing is now available in the Violet Hall computer lab- be sure to chose it under print options to make the most of those precious pages!

            Ongoing:

    • Permanent outdoor recycling bins will be up and running on the quad by next semester thanks to donations from Sigma Kappa, Delta Zeta, Phi Sigma Pi, Tau Lambda Sigma, and Student Senate.

    • As was the dream of our former SUB director, a Bike Garden will be planted on the South West corner of the SUB.  If you’re interested in helping to design the garden (native plants, rebar bike racks, air pump, sunny benches), contact the committee chair.

    • A student intern for the President’s Environmental Advisory Committee will be in place next semester.  This position is valuable and may someday become a sustainability coordinator!  If you’re interested in filling the position, contact the committee chair.

    • A Green tab on Truview will include the Guide for Living Sustainably as well as a directory of all things eco-minded.  Look for it next semester!

    • Building renovations and construction means a great opportunity for energy efficiency retrofitting and potential environmental certification of some kind.  Remember that YOU are paying for the renovations so YOU should have a say!  Are you interested in being on the facilities advisory committee?  Contact Lou Ann Gilchrist or Lori Shook.  Have some ideas for the buildings?  Contact Michael McManis or Karl Schneider.

    • Local, organic foods in the dining halls and convenience stores will mean higher quality foods with lower impact on the environment.  Take advantage of what we’ve already acquired- Weiler Milk (in glass, with a refund).
